'Homemade Dynamite' was on of the more lowkey songs on Lorde's sophomore release Melodrama, its mix of bombastic lyrics and the emphatic delivery making it a classic Lorde track. Lorde's 'Homemade Dynamite' remix with Khalid, Post Malone, and SZA gets sensual, adding a cleaner element to the song.
The main principles of 'Homemade Dynamite' in its original form are still present for most of the song. In fact, the song remains virtually the same until the second verse. Still, the subtle beat and Lorde's enchanting harmonies will capture you before Khalid comes in to sing the second verse and chorus, adding the scene of a crazy night into the mix. SZA sings the third verse, adding a more personal and intimate element to the track. Post Malone is last to feature, the synths expanding under his grand harmonies (which fit right in line with Lorde) to end it all off.
The remix of 'Homemade Dynamite' doesn't really add much sonically. There are several new production elements, but nothing too big - it's hard to say if it could've been better with more of a drive in it. On one hand, the remix and song essentially have the same vibe, only the remix has guests singing. On the other, none of the artists involved are really the type to add a lot of hype into their music. They're all generally focussed on a quiet delivery rather than a big club beat, so it does work well in that context. The production build and variety makes me, personally, enjoy the remix more than the original, though it's only subtle differences that add to it.
Lorde's 'Homemade Dynamite' remix with Khalid, Post Malone, & SZA gets sensual and adds slight dynamic to the original's core. It's not a wildly different remix, but it offers a bit more than the original and leaves something aesthetic and lowkey in the fashion of all four of the artists involved. Not all remixes have to be earthquake-inspiring. Sometimes all you need is a few new voices.
