Electronic music can take you places, and the infectiousness of house can really keep you there. Lindstrøm's It's Alright Between Us As It Is is out of this world and really will have you in a trance and floating off into the unknown.
From the very beginning of the album, Lindstrøm has you experiencing something else. Title track 'It's Alright Between Us As It Is' is a dreamy interlude, its sound almost hallucinogenic. You start spiraling out with its synths as if you were riding them. Lindstrøm takes you through a variety of soundscapes, from the nostalgia of the 70s with vibes from 'But Isn't It' with Frida Sundemo providing indie vocalizations to the more tense, rigid interlude 'Versatile Dreams.' There's no one path that It's Alright Between Us As It Is takes on the journey it brings you along on.
The contrast plays a big role on the record. It's Alright Between Us As It Is explores the feeling of being at a place in a relationship that is neither favorable nor disappointing - it's a point at which you have no choice but to accept for a time. 'Tensions' describes the good side of the spectrum, a sort of freedom within this grey area of possibility. The spiraling vibes and feel good punchiness keeps it familiar and sweet. It's not all fun and games though, songs like 'Bungl (Like A Ghost)' sounding desolate and evil as Jenny Hval's creepy harmonies and offputting poetic delivery really making you uncomfortable in the situation, as if you really are just a ghost spectating from afar.
Lindstrøm's It's Alright Between Us As It Is is out of this world, its sonic soundscape taking you on a journey through emotions. Even though it sounds like something otherworldly, it explores that grey area in a relationship that's neither binding nor free; it's confusion as well as freedom, the dichotomy coming together in electronic catchiness.
